Are you or your child experiencing symptoms of a suspected whooping cough infection? Learn more about a clinical research study that may be an option.

  • Babies, children, and adults may be eligible. A parent or legal guardian must provide consent for participants under 18 years of age.
  • Symptoms cannot have been present for more than two weeks at the time of enrollment.
  • Participants must have a suspected whooping cough infection, with symptoms that may include a low-grade fever, runny or stuffy nose, coughing fits, a whooping sound when breathing in, apnea, and/or cyanosis. Apnea and cyanosis are more common in babies.
  • Participants cannot already be taking Bactrim, tetracyclines, macrolides, or fluoroquinolones.
  • The study involves one visit, including a nasal swab and nasal wash to collect study specimens.
